Burger King UK buys 12 new restaurants from franchise partners

Burger King UK agreed to buy all units operated by franchise firms Kaykem Fast Foods and Saxby.

Burger King has reportedly signed a deal to acquire 12 restaurants from its franchisees in the UK, bringing its portfolio of directly-owned restaurants to 172.

 
The fast-food chain is buying all units, currently run by franchise firms Kaykem Fast Foods and Saxby, according to various media reports.

This move is said to expand its presence with locations in London Ipswich Kent and across South East.

The chain currently has around 530 restaurants in the UK. While nearly a third of them are directly owned by the group, the rest are majority-owned by franchisees.

It is now seeking to expand organically by opening new sites and adding smaller franchises centrally managed portfolio through consolidation.

Additionally, the chain has been scaling up its investment over the last year to offer more digital ordering kiosks as well as digital menu screens.

Commenting on the deal, Burger King UK Alasdair Murdoch said: “I would like to thank Kaykem Fast Foods Limited and Saxby for their support along with the contribution they have made to Burger King in the UK over the past 25 years.

Bridgepoint purchased the Burger King master franchise from Restaurant Brands International in 2017.

In July, a report by Sky News said that the private equity firm is in talks with investment banks for auctioning the fast-food chain.

Freshly Chopped to open restaurants in six new countries

Fast food chain Freshly Chopped is planning to expand its footprint to a further six European nations by partnering with the Netherlands-based firm Fresh Food Fast Company (FFF) International Holding.

 
Under this partnership, Freshly Chopped plans to open 120 new outlets over the next five years in Sweden, Belgium, France, Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands.

Established in 2012 in the Irish capital of Dublin, Freshly Chopped currently operates more than 60 stores that are located in the UK, Cyprus and Ireland.

The company offers a wide range of delicacies including salads, burrito, ACAI Bowls and smoothies.

As per the agreement, FFF will hold Freshly Chopped’s master franchise rights until 2032.

The first outlet is expected to open in February next year in the Dutch city of Leiden, with seven more planned to open in the same year across the country.

Over the next five years, company as well as franchise restaurants will be launched in France, Germany, Belgium, Denmark and Sweden.

Bathroom retailer Ripples has been listed as one of the UK’s top franchises in the HSBC Elite Franchise Top 100 awards.

 
Ripples was ranked at number 93 in the awards, which recognise the franchise sector’s brightest businesses and rank them according to various criteria, including heritage, financial performance, innovation and their contribution to the community.

Shayo Badejo will be operating from Enfield and is a highly skilled finance professional with more than 15 years of experience within different sectors of small and large organisations. Shayo was introduced to TaxAssist by a friend who also runs her own successful TaxAssist franchise. Having always been keen to establish her own business, the positive feedback Shayo received was the catalyst she needed to join the franchise.

Home Instead crowned UK’s number one franchise for the fourth time

Home Instead has been named the UK’s number one franchise business for the fourth time.

 
The provider, whose network grew to over 240 franchises this year, topped the HSBC Elite Franchise Top 100 league table for 2022.

The ranking is based on a number of criteria, including support given to franchisees, the scale of the business, financial performance and the contribution made by businesses to the communities in which they operate.

Other home care providers to make the list include Right at Home, Bluebird Care and Caremark, who are positioned in 8th, 12th and 15th place respectively.
