New Indian cafe brings ‘hint of the east’ to Huddersfield town centre

An Indian cafe serving chai teas, rotis, sundaes and street food has arrived in Huddersfield town centre .

Chaiiwala already has a restaurant in nearby Batley and now the franchise has opened an eatery on Greenhead Road, just outside Huddersfield ring road.

The menu is inspired by the company’s Delhi street food origins and refined for the Western palette, so expect to see fusion dishes like masala chips and chocolate chai mousse.

The food is perhaps well summed up by the popular All Day Desi Breakfast, which includes omelette, spicy beans or dalal, roti and karak chai tea.

Chaiiwala came to the UK in 2015 with its first restaurant in Leicester. Now there are around 30 up and down the country.

Managing director, Hassan Ghyas, said: “Off the back of the success of the Bradford restaurant we have opened the Huddersfield one and the Batley restaurant is equally as nice.

“Inside it is very causal, very light hearted and cosy. If you have been in a Chaiiwala before you will know it is bright and modern, not a dark and dingy place.

“The food is a hint of the East with all the flavours of India, fused for the Western palette.”

Chaiiwala Huddersfield opened on Thursday.
