Icestone Gelato UK. A husband and wife team are to launch their first business venture by opening a dessert parlour in Durham after securing a five-figure loan from HSBC.
Adil and Saira Malik will open an Icestone Gelato at the newly developed Riverwalk Shopping Centre, using the £98,000 Enterprise Finance Guarantee (EFG) loan to refurbish the interior, purchase industrial fridges and freezers and erect new signage outside the store.
The business will create up to 15 part-time jobs and will serve 24 different flavours of ice cream, including a range of gluten-free options.
Saira Malik, franchisee owner at Icestone Gelato, said: “My husband and I are excited to begin this new venture together. It’s always been a dream of ours to own a dessert shop and Icestone Gelato was the perfect brand for us to invest in.
“Our main priority for the store was the location – we’re directly outside of the new Riverwalk Shopping Centre so we hope to see a high footfall. This is the first Icestone Gelato in Durham and we are keen to welcome customers with our exceptional service and wide range of delicious desserts.”
David Slane, HSBC’s area director for business banking in Durham, said: “The Icestone Gelato franchising business has grown significantly in recent years, mainly due to its niche offering and high quality products.
“Adil and Saira clearly acknowledged this and are confident that, with their passion, they can make this venture a real success.”
Icestone Gelato produces its own gelato at a factory in Yorkshire, supplying all of its franchises across the North East.
The Maliks plan to expand their portfolio of stores over the next two years.
