2 Subway stores in Ryde could soon re-open as the hunt for a new franchisee continues.
Applications to take over operations of the stores at High Street and Union Street are currently being accepted and reviewed.
Despite only opening in 2014, the High Street store closed its doors last year shortly after being slated and fined by the Isle of Wight Council for poor food hygiene. However, Subway say that the closure of the store is not in connection with the issues reported in April 2018.
The closure was followed by the shutting of the long-established outlet at the bottom of nearby Union Street. Both remain closed.
A spokesperson for Subway UK has said:
“The two Subway stores in Ryde are currently closed, this is not in connection to the issues reported upon in April 2018. We hope to reopen the stores soon and we are currently accepting and reviewing applications to take on the franchise.
In addition to the closure of 2 stores in Ryde, Newport’s first and only store also closed in 2018. It has now re-opened until new management.
The spokesperson continued:
“We are pleased to announce that the Subway store in Newport reopened in December 2018 under new management. The franchisee has received excellent feedback from guests and looks forward to continuing to offer great value and healthier menu options to the local community.”
